Euromed Invest Workshop on promoting the role of BSOs in developing integrity standards to protect SMEs against unfair practices

On the 4th of July 2017 the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce hosted an event, promoting the role of Business Support Organizations (BSO) in developing integrity standards to protect small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) against unfair business practices. With the issue effecting businesses worldwide, numerous Egyptian business support organizations came together to discuss the destructive impact of unfair practices, such as corruption, and what in particular could be done to protect SMEs in the Egyptian industry. Keynote speakers included Angel Gutierrez Hidalgo Head of the Economic Reform section in the EU Delegation to Egypt, Dr. Alaa Ezz Secretary General of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Dirk Vantyghem Director of Operations at Eurochambers in Brussels, Davide Del Monte Executive Director from Transparency International Italia as well as Qusay Salama Project Director at Integrity Network Initiative at the Egyptian Junior Business Association. The fruitful discussions led to an exchange of integral ideas in regards to integrity standards and the different channels and projects that are available for SMEs.

The EUROMED Invest project aims at developing lastingly business relations, investments and business partnerships between the two shores of the Mediterranean. In order to maximize the impact of Euromed Invest, the programme has selected a certain number of niches with a high potential, as well as interdisciplinary fields such as women entrepreneur networks, diaspora networks, supporting the Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises, etc.

EUROMED Invest is implemented by the MedAlliance consortium, a Euro-Mediterranean network representing the private sector and organisations supporting the economic development of the region, including Euro-Med networks of investment and economic development agencies.

The MedAlliance networks gather over 500 direct business support organisations, and indirectly all the EU and South ENI Chambers of Commerce who have access to the companies’ registrers which guaranties the mobilisation of SMEs and BSOs in all the associated countries.
