The German-Arab Chamber of Industry & Commerce is the Egyptian partner in the ENPI CBC funded GOALS Project that aims to promote an environmental approach for tourism development and sustainable tourism strategies in the Mediterranean region. According to the WTO, tourism impact in the Med region is higher than in any other region in the world.
GOALS therefore has the objective to mainstream the concept of enhancing sustainable tourism growth by adequate local planning and integration of Total Quality Management (TQM) standards regarding eco-friendly and energy saving measures, good governance and integrated decision-making models for the local authorities. An emphasis on participatory process of SMEs, tourism NGOs, local agri-food producers, local handcraft artisans and public-private partnerships for local tourism related enterprises is part of the GOALS methodology by bringing all stakeholders together in Local Focus Group meetings. All of the above mentioned would contribute to the expected output of the project: namely the creation of 7 itineraries comprising 28 tourist packages for the GOALS project partner countries. The itineraries focus on preservation of the natural and cultural heritage as well as providing an authentic and unique travel experience. The project is situated in Alexandria governerate. The partners involved in the project are institutions from Spain, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt.
